Templestowe Uniting Church joins with the other Uniting Churches in Manningham in seeking to foster a deeper understanding of our relationship to the earth. We recognize that in God we are connected with the earth and all creation. We look for ways to care for the earth, and recognize the place of the Wurundjeri people in the area where we live.
Each year we mark a Season of Creation as part of the cycle of the Church Year. We join with an increasing number of churches around the world who are doing this. It is a time which seems to be appreciated by many people and enables us to spend time focusing on God’s goodness to us in creation, especially in this urgent time when our own treatment of the earth is having such a detrimental effect upon it.
We mark the season over six weeks during September and October.
An Earth Retreat at Templestowe Uniting Church was conducted by Joan Wright-Howie, Gail Pritchard and Mary Stringer on Wednesday October 29. The retreat sought to make connections between deep-ecology and eco-theology. There was space for conversation and contemplation, stillness and embarking on a prayer walk.
