A GRAND STAND for the Environment

A GRAND STAND for the environment began when a group of grandparents and seniors in Manningham gathered to share their concerns, fears, frustrations and despair over the impact of climate change on the global community and especially upon the lives of future generations.

Grandparents have a unique perspective and concern. Free of the pressures of balancing work and family commitments they are able to reflect on their own lives, contrasting them with the pressures on families today and the world their grandchildren will experience.

Gail Pritchard, one of the founding members explains it this way, ‘Grandparents and seniors today are the first generation to hand on to our children a planet in worse condition than we have enjoyed.’

Yet, in their increasing numbers, good health and greater leisure time those of the older generation have the capability of being mobilising agents for change and action.

Furthermore, Gail says the grandparents and seniors want to invest their personal gifts in bequeathing a sustainable, peaceful and beautiful world to tomorrow’s youth.

By taking a ‘Grand Stand’ for the environment grandparents and seniors can contribute a powerful voice to help save the bio-diversity of the planet and improve quality of life for people everywhere.
